MASON CITY, Iowa – Heritage Park in Forest City was filled with flashing lights and families in the holiday spirit for the 1st Holiday Tour of Lights.
“We drove around and saw the lights and then we got out of the car and we just saw the Christmas trees,” says Delaney White.
Dawn Arispe, the event coordinator moved to Heritage Park with her family a year ago and wanted to bring something different to town.
“The response has been really incredible. I’ve gotten phone calls from Minneapolis with the idea of hey we’re coming to this area for Thanksgiving or we’re going to be here for Christmas day and we and seen this and now we’ve got something to do and we’re not only bringing one carload we’re bringing 10 carloads of family member’s,” says Dawn.
And she credits the volunteers and local organizations who played a role in helping to bring the event together.
“We’ve got probably a good 15 volunteers that are adults, we have several youth organizations like 4H.
As for Delaney, she says seeing everyone come out to celebrate the holidays is what she enjoyed the most.
“Because I get to see lots of people’s work in the holiday spirit.”
“It’s really been fun to see even the kids sketch it out and bring it to me and say what do you think about this and actually putting it to light and it’s coming true,” says Dawn.
The Holiday Tour of Lights runs until December 24th and the first, second and third place winners will be announced on December 19th.
