MASON CITY, Iowa – After the death of former Cuban President Fidel Castro, members of a local organization are reflecting on their experiences during a recent trip to Cuba.
In 2014, the Mason City Chamber Of Commerce and some neighbors traveled to Cuba through the Global Familiarization Program.
Chamber President Robin Anderson says she wasn’t expecting to see the reaction Cubans are showing to Castro’s death.
“I was surprised when I saw on the news that people were mourning the death of Castro because the people that we saw were very much in fear of the government.”
Next year, the chamber plans to visit China and South Africa.
