Rochester man sentenced for hit-and-run crash

ROCHESTER, Minn. – A man accused of running away from a hit-and-run accident was sentenced Monday in Olmsted County District Court.

30-year-old Matthew Joseph Klaus of Rochester entered guilty pleas to felony DWI and gross misdemeanor criminal vehicular operation.  He was arrested after a two-vehicle collision on August 29 at the intersection of 12th Street and 11th Avenue SE.

Police say Klaus fled from the accident on foot and was caught after running through several backyards.

He’s been ordered to spend 45 days in the Olmsted County Adult Detention Center, serve seven years of supervised probation and pay a $900 fine or do 90 hours of community service.
