ROCHESTER, Minn. – The father of a missing woman wonders if she may have run off with a man charged with attempted murder.
Tom Petersen of Rochester says he hasn’t seen or heard from his daughter Kayla since Thanksgiving Day. Petersen says Kayla called him the day before and said she and her boyfriend, Kristian Ivan Miranda, were caught up in a law enforcement raid on a home in Austin.
Petersen says Kayla then spent Thanksgiving in Rochester with her children, ages 1 and 2, and talked about the future — but she and her kids were gone the next day. Petersen says Kayla has not responded to any texts.
He says he reported his daughter missing to the Mower County Sheriff’s Office.
Miranda, who is from Opa-locka, Florida, was arrested in early November after an alleged shooting incident in Rochester. He and his brother, Victor Alejandro Miranda, were eventually charged with attempted first-degree murder. Victor Miranda has not been arrested and Kristian Miranda failed to appear at a hearing on Nov. 23. A warrant was issued for his arrest.
Tom Petersen says he does not believe anything bad has happened to his daughter but wonders if she and Miranda have taken off to Mexico, a place Kayla has been several times before. He says he just wants to be sure his grandchildren will be well cared for.
Anyone with information on Kayla Petersen and where she is located or heading is asked to contact law enforcement. The Austin Police Department says people should not approach her on their own.
