MASON CITY, Iowa – Businesses across the area are taking part in Giving Tuesday, a national effort to raise donations for nonprofits.
Mason City Family YMCA Director of Development Cait Hamilton said it only makes sense to participate in the global day of giving since the event started at the YMCA.
“The legendary 92nd St. YMCA in New York City.”
Hamilton said the goal is to raise about $9,700 that will be used for new equipment.
“That includes dumbbells, bumper plates, a new half squat rack, and a brand addition to the fitness floor that our members have really been wanting, rowing machines,” she said.
She said the YMCA in Mason City has operated for over 16 years and is used by over 100,000 people every year. She says it’s important members have up-to-date equipment to use.
“That way it is the safest we can possibly provide,” said Hamilton. “And the best quality we can possibly provide.”
Hamilton said they’ve raised nearly $8,000 so far.
