AUSTIN, Minn. – Folks in Austin are raising money for their flower basket program. This is the 22nd year that downtown Austin will put assorted flowers on display during the spring and summer.
On Tuesday, organizers met to announce their 2017 Flower Basket Program. They will put together about 240 baskets to scatter throughout the downtown area.
The city will pay for $16,000, but the majority of the money comes from donations.
KIMT asked one organizer why she thinks so many community members show their support.
“I think it’s because people really appreciate it,” said Bonnie Rietz, chairwoman for the Flower Basket Program. “I receive so many comments from people who just love to come downtown and see the flower baskets. There is a sense of pride and you can see that in the number of people who donate to the program.”
If you’re interested in making a donation, you can turn your money in at City Hall. They are hoping to have all the donations by January.
