CHARLES CITY, Iowa – An SUV and a train collided in North Iowa on Tuesday morning.
It happened around 7:30 a.m. on E Street in Charles City. Police say 38-year-old William Wilson was driving north and hit the side of a Kershaw brush cutter train in the railroad crossing.
The train car, operated by the Canadian Pacific Railroad, was derailed in the crash and the SUV suffered significant front end damage. One person was hurt.
The Charles City Police Department says the lights and arms at the crossing did not activate, which is normal when only one train car is passing through.
