MASON CITY, Iowa – A key piece of the Mason City downtown revitalization project is in jeopardy.
San Diego Developer Philip Chodur of G8 Development needed to receive funds and obtain the proper paper work to break ground for a proposed Marriott Hotel by Nov. 30.
Those with the city say they have been in touch with Chodur throughout the month, but he has failed to meet the required deadline. This comes after needing a 30-day extension per the agreement with the city and G8 Development.
City leaders say despite the setbacks, they want people of North Iowa to stay optimistic as they consider their options.
“We still have the preliminary approval from the state,” says Mason City Administrator Brent Trout. “They know we’re working through this issue with the developer and we’re going to work through those issues and bring another proposal back to them for approval.”
Trout says regardless of who the developer is, the plans on where to build each building will remain the same.
