Local health care providers get ‘Motivational Interviewing’ training

AUSTIN, Minn. – Health care professionals in our area are getting some training that could help them better care for their patients.

Mower County Public Health is hosting a two-day workshop on Motivational Interviewing. It’s a method to help providers address tough topics with their patients, like tobacco use and obesity.

“We’ve talked about where is kind of a starting point on how we can look at this from a health care perspective and provide some support to providers to bring up these hard conversations,” said Karissa Studier of Mower County Public Health.

The workshop is funded through a grant from the State Health Improvement Program.
