Dog shot, family seeks answers

MITCHELL COUNTY, Iowa – Mitchell County Sheriff Greg Beaver says a family’s terreir had to be put down shortly after it was found suffering from a gunshot wound.

The sheriff’s office says the dog was shot along 465th Street in McIntire, several miles from the owner’s home.

Beaver described the dog as a “target of opportunity”.  He adds that there’s no explanation as to why the dog was shot.

“For one it’s illegal. Secondly it’s a family’s pet that they care deeply about so we certainly want to solve this crime and prevent any others from happening,” Beaver said.

Beaver says the dog struggled to get home and was found there.  It was put to sleep later that day.
