FOREST CITY, Iowa – According to the American Cancer Society, 1 out of every 2 men and 1 out of every 3 women will have to fight cancer at some point in their life. That’s why funding cancer research is something one area county has taken so seriously.
Winnebago County ranks 3RD in the nation for funds raised per capita. In fact, this year the Winnebago County Relay for Life committee reached their goal this year by raising more than $100,000.
Steve Lovik, the senior community manager of Relay for Life says several factors helped them reach their goal.
“We had over 20 Relay for Life teams from all throughout Winnebago County and those teams raised over $55,000. We had corporate sponsor businesses and individuals who donated money and this year we raised almost $30,000 in corporate sponsorships.”
