OLMSTED CO, Minn. – Olmsted County Sheriff Kevin Torgerson says he’s never seen anything quite like this.
When an elderly woman came to see Torgerson on Thursday afternoon, he was out — but the woman insisted she needed to speak to a member of law enforcement. When a deputy came out, she gave him 20 $50 Walmart gift cards to hand out to all the deputies.
He explained to her that the deputies wouldn’t be able to accept the money, but the woman clarified her request — she wanted them to hand the cards out to children seen doing good deeds.
Starting Friday until the new year, school liaison and patrol officers will hand out $1,000 worth of cards. Deputies say they are shocked by the generosity and excited to hand them out.
