South Dakota man facing gun charges in North Iowa

CHARLES CITY, Iowa – A late November traffic stop in Floyd County turned up multiple handguns.

On November 27, the Sheriff’s Office stopped a vehicle for speeding on the Avenue of the Saints, one mile west of Floyd.  A deputy said he smelled marijuana coming from the vehicle and a search was conducted.

Authorities say they found four handguns inside, along with ammunition.  A passenger, 27-year-old Corey Antonio Brown of Brookings, South Dakota, was arrested on four counts of felon in possession of a firearm and four counts of carrying weapons.  He was booked into the Floyd County Jail on $25,000 bond.

The driver, 20-year-old Najwa Wilson of Brookings, SD, was cited for possession of drug paraphernalia and failure to have a valid driver’s license.

The handguns have been sent to the Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation’s lab for fingerprint and ballistic testing.

The Iowa State Patrol assisted in this incident.
