MASON CITY, Iowa – If you missed Jeopardy on Tuesday afternoon, a special episode aired with a contestant who passed away after fulfilling her dream of being on the show.
Cindy Stowell, 41, died last week from Stage 4 cancer. She appeared on the show back in August, and only a couple of people knew about her condition, including host Alex Trebek and several producers. Stowell was hoping to raise money for charities doing cancer research.
One nurse in Palliative Care says Stowell did what they hope all terminally ill patients do, which is live out their dreams.
“It’s about helping people achieve their goals and live life to the fullest and it’s quality of life,” said Deb Groath, a nurse in Palliative Care and Hospice at Mercy Medical Center-North Iowa. “We’re not looking at quantity of life, and for a lot of people, you talk about what’s most important to you.”
Stowell won Tuesday’s episode and will appear on Wednesday’s episode as well. That airs on KIMT at 4:30 p.m.
