ALBERT LEA, Minn.- Albert Lea is being awarded for their efforts to make their community healthier. They’ve been a Blue Zone Project City for six years now.
They recently received recognition from the Humphrey School of Public Affairs at the University of Minnesota. The city won the, “Local Government Innovation Award.”
Since 2009, citizens in Albert Lea have focused on improving their quality of life. Folks are eating healthier, smoking less and exercising more.
Some restaurants in the area even provide a Blue Zone Project menu offering healthier choices.
“A lot of communities as a well as our city have been involved with trying to progress and instill a healthier lifestyle in our everyday life here,” said Chad Adams.
The city has received an innovation award the past five years, but this is the first time the city’s efforts with the Blue Zone Project has been recognized.
