MASON CITY, Iowa- Each year the Mason City Police Department choose about 100 families they feel may need a little extra help during the holidays as part of their annual Cops for Kids at Christmas. They then spend $75 on each child, 25 goes towards a toy of the child’s choosing, the rest goes towards clothing the kids may need.
“It brings a lot of joy to us knowing that we are helping these kids out and helping these family’s,” says Investigator Aaron Onder with the Mason City Police Department. “They might not be able to get these things for Christmas without our help, so it’s really really satisfying.”
Onder has been helping with the event for the last 14 years of the more than two decades Cops for Kids at Christmas has been around.
“It’s a great opportunity to get in front of the community and build a relationship with these kids and families,” Investigator Onder says.
