CLEAR LAKE, Iowa- It’s important to have more than just a hat, gloves and a scarf as the temperatures drop. You also need skin creams.
Mercy Clinic registered medical assistant Denise Williams said when it gets colder outside, everything from the wind to the heat in our homes can take a toll on people’s skin. She said the conditions can dry out hands, feet, face and lips.
Williams recommended using a repair cream, ChapStick or Vaseline to prevent problems. “Skin can get windburn, your lips can get dried out because everything is cold and windy, your lips can get chapped and cracked which can lead to different type of infections.”
She said when you’re outside, make sure you’re covered with winter clothing. She said exposed skin is more likely to dry out.
