FREEBORN CO., Minn. – Investigators say a house fire in Gordonsville on Tuesday night was caused by the use of several space heaters.
The Freeborn County Sheriff’s Office Dispatch Center received a 911 call around 11:30 p.m. from a person who reported that a two-story house at 80538 Second Ave. was on fire. Area firefighters and Freeborn County deputies arrived on scene and found the home fully engulfed.
No one was home at the time, but it’s believed that one pet died in the fire.
The Freeborn County Sheriff’s Office and Minnesota State Fire Marshal’s Office investigated the blaze, determining that wire and the use of several space heaters caused it.
According to the Freeborn County Sheriff’s Office, the house is owned by 52-year-old Darrenn Stevens. His two sons, 25-year-old Hayden Stevens and 30-year-old Mitchell Stevens, also lived there.
Glenville, Myrtle, Albert Lea, Twin Lakes, Emmons and Northwood fire departments all responded. Gold Cross Ambulance and the Salvation Army also assisted at the scene.
