MASON CITY, Iowa – The holidays are just around the corner, and that means a lot of time with family and a lot of food.
Katelyn Nicholson, Cerro Gordo County Department of Public Health registered dietitian, provided some tips for people trying to eat healthy.
Nicholson said she doesn’t recommend a specific diet plan since many can be overly restrictive. Instead, she said people should set a manageable goal that is attainable.
If you are going to a holiday party or potluck, it can beneficial to bring a healthy option to eat.
“Maybe a healthy dessert that made with Stevia or something like that instead of sugar,” said Nicholson. “I love making low carb cheesecake and it tastes just as good.”
Nicholson recommended avoiding snacking while mingling because you might lose track of how much you’re eating. She said it’s better to get a plate of food so you can better control your portions.
