KIMT News 3- With the temperatures staying low, now is a good time to make sure your water pipes won’t burst.
The Albert Lea Fire Department has some tips to prevent your pipes from freezing and bursting.
Officials recommend you let warm water drip from the faucets when you’re sleeping a few times a week. It’s also a good idea to insulate your pipes and disconnect any garden hoses.
It’s never too early to make sure you’re prepared.
“I’ve already had a heat tape installed by a certified electrician ahead of time so when I need it I can plug it in and use it,” said Deputy Chief Jeff Lawkowske, Albert Lea Fire Department. “Anytime I’m using it someone has to be home and monitoring it at all times. If we’re leaving the home for any reason then I shut that heat tap off just in case.”
If you’re heading out of town for a couple of days, it’s always a good idea to have your neighbor or friends check in on your home. That way if one of your pipes burst, they can catch it early on.
