ALBERT LEA, Minn.- As temperatures dropped during a major snow storm this weekend, there were a lot of car accidents reported in the area. Both Iowa and Minnesota saw a large number of crashes.
According to the State Patrols, Iowa had more than 200 accidents while Minnesota had more than 1,000 crashes.
Troopers say the snow storm led to icy road conditions and limited visibility.
Freeborn County Sheriff Kurt Freitag says when the roads are that dangerous, it’s a good idea just to stay home.
“Before you leave the house you should consider not going and ask yourself if this trip it worth it,” said Freitag. “If you do have to make it, then make sure you’re prepared in case you do go in a ditch. Have a survival kit in the car and be properly dressed.”
Survival kits should consist of things like a phone charger, extra clothing water and something to eat.
