FREEBORN COUNTY, Minn. – A Southern Minnesota family is without a home after a fire broke out Tuesday night.
It happened in rural Freeborn County near Alden. Authorities say when crews arrived at the residence on 620th avenue just before 10:00pm, it was fully covered in flames.
The homeowner, Bruce Niebuhr, and his wife were at their daughter’s home nearby when the fire started. The cause of the blaze is still under investigation.
“In freeborn county we have a team of specially trained firefighters that look at all dwelling fires within the county. They will assess if there’s something suspicious or unknown about the fire and they will contact the state fire marshal to make a determination if further investigation is warranted,” said Chief Deputy Glen Strom of the Freeborn County Sheriff’s Office.
Crews from nine different departments assisted at the scene, including those from Alden, Freeborn and Conger.
