KIMT News 3 – Lawmakers in Washington are discussing funding and resources for Iowans dealing with the invasive Emerald Ash Borer.
The Iowa Department of Natural Resources has found the invasive specie in several Iowa counties, including Black Hawk and Bremer. The EAB could potentially cost billions of dollars in statewide damage. That’s why Representative Bruce Braley is asking for funding and resources to combat the spread of the EAB.
Braley says in the past, states were given resources to mitigate the problem and remove infected trees, but Congress has drastically cut federal funding from that program, leaving states like Iowa with limited resources.
Rep. Braley recently introduced legislation to restore those funds.
